Your intended market is the primary consideration in designing your new website. Consider spending some time carefully selecting your target audience. This may be a good time to also take into accocunt the budget you would like to apply towards your website and how extensive you would like it to be. A good domain name address and effective marketing plan would also certainly be helpful.

Balancing the exciting visual components of your website must be ease of navigation with accessible information conveying your message. Consider clear, concise communication to be the most important element of doing business online and elsewhere.

Though certain fonts may appeal to you, stop and consider for a moment whether they may or may not be the most practical in terms of being easy to read. Generally, sans-serif based fonts work best for content excepting headers or logos, because they are without decoration and more widely spaced than serif fonts. Serif or ceriph is a term used to denote the smaller decorative lines used to finish off the main strokes of letters. Use the font icon on the toolbar at the top of the page to experiment with some of the more popular fonts yourself.

Consider how the image you are trying to sell or the message you are trying to convey to your audience will be communicated through your choice of colors. Choose colors that best represent you and your company while at the same time effectively drawing in your audience. Open-Source Firefox is considered the most secure and extensible browser, Opera used to be the fastest, IE has always fallen behind in every respect, and Google's Chrome is undeniably the new fastest browser.

Which is the right one for you to browse your new website with?

One of the best features of Firefox, besides the superior open source architecture to security, usability, and speed, are the user generated enhancements called add-ons. There are a number of surprisingly useful add-ons for Firefox, including AdBlockPlus, which disables all the commercial ads on every page you visit, saving you valuable bandwith. Others include built-in media converters, news sharing plug-ins, and some extensions which actually increase browsing speed by changing the number of connections per server and proxy, and enabling pipelining and pre-fetching.

Google Chrome is a minimalistic browser engineered around speed and efficiency. It features a new way to render Javascript blazingly fast, as well as run separate processes for each open tab, ensuring bugs, hangs, and crashes in one tab do not affect the others. This is a good choice for laptop owners or those with secondary computer systems with more dated processing specs. Touted as being open source, it remains to be seen whether this browser will realize the level of user supported extensibility as that of Firefox.

IE8 is another amusingly failed attempt to catch up to the features pioneered by the other cutting edge browsers, just as every incarnation of Internet Explorer has been. It renders Javascript much faster than it's predecessor IE7, which had serious issues keeping on par with contemporary page loading expectations, but it seems to do so by rendering less of it when it's CPU gets overheated. Despite the nice clean interface and the fact that it is at last W3C compliant, it continues to make the agonizing trademark click sound every time a link is clicked, and we will not be using this one either.

Flash looks amazing. Why wouldn't everyone want it for their website? Well, I don't want to have to wait 10 seconds, or sometimes even 30, to see the same animation load and play out every time I want to access a web page and retrieve some important information. I want my work related browsing to be fast and efficient. The links to the left introduce our unprecidented and innovative "Flash-Less Flash" method of design and coding.

Dimensions' unique "Flash-Less Flash" design technology makes unprecedented use of advanced Javascript coding to achieve many of the same effects commonly deployed by Flash, as well as a few new ones, while ensuring that all code is native to the browser, not requiring the extra software to run, for fast loading speeds and instant access to website content!

Flash does not display on most handheld devices and hinders the functionality even of desktop browsers, rendering the back button inoperative for displaying previous content within itself, as well as the copy and paste functions, accessibility, and other native features of web browsing that many are familiar with.

Neither is Flash scalable. Go ahead and resize the width of your browser window now. You will notice that this main content area retains a proportionate size and that all the page elements retain their relative positions. This is known as liquid resizing and ensures that everybody, from those using a small mini sub-notebook to those using huge desktop monitors with high resolution, will enjoy a equally comprehensive experience of your website.

Additionally, updating your content can be an expensive hassle, as you may guess the only people who can navigate and change your content in an efficient manner are the one's who are familiar with it's creation. Dimesions offers fully customized support for popular content management systems such as Drupal, Joomla, and Wordpress, so that you can edit the website to your liking, without ever having to flag down your Flash designer for that "emergency fix".

Why a custom database free CMS? Database queries slow down servers. On a high traffic website this has a dramatic effect on the speed of the site. A database free website is lightning fast. With a database backing up and most importantly moving sites between web hosts requires much time and effort. Database free CMS' on the other hand are easy to backup and migrate. Just pack up your files and FTP them to your new server! A database free CMS writes content directly to files. These files are easier to edit then editing database contents. For a small website, why not take the simple route instead of struggling with complex platforms, which most CMS' are?

Can you believe that in this day and age, different browsers read the same HTML code differently? This includes popular browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari. This means that while your web page may appear to you correctly, under your browser, it may be a mess under your intended viewers' browsers! The answer is W3C validation. This assures a medium ground under which all browsers agree on how to display the code. Dimensions Web Design complies to this standard not only for XHTML, but also CSS, and Javascript code.

The Javascript sequence to fade content can become disrupted if you click the same link twice or more in rapid succession. However Dimensions uses validated code and scripts will continue to run on the page even in such an event. Refreshing the content in question by clicking the link one more time should resolve this issue.

To Dimensions every website is considered a web application and created to be not just a HTML page but an interactive media experience. Javascript is an integral component in bringing our sites to life. Rest assured if you are reading this message on the page then you have Javascript working correctly.
